Phaskowa Tea Tourism

Phaskowa Tea estate on the fringe of Buxa Tiger Reserve along the Rydak River bordering Bhutan is an attractive location for tea tourism. A 120 years old garden was started by the British Duncan Brothers way back in 1897 and in 1967 it was transferred to Chamaria family who is the present owner of this fabulous garden. With 660 acres of plantation area the garden produces high quality tea both CTC and Orthodox leaves. The charming and peaceful location of the garden with easy access to Buxa Tiger Reserve and Coochbehar make this an important refuge for the nature lovers. The bungalow built in the colonial era on top of a hillock overlooking the river, forests and the hills beyond gives a comfortable abode after a busy day out.

The bungalow has 2 Suites the Tropicana and The Sunset Room with teak bed, French lace bedspread, beautiful scatter cushions. The floor-to-roof window gives an awakening view of the Himalayas over the sprawling green lawns. Live in style as a true planter with a hot cup of tea as you listen to the beats of tribal drums while the dancers steps in with the ethnic rhythm.

The elaborated cuisine provides a verity of tastes from Indian to Continental, Chinese and Mughlai and most of the vegetables are grown in the gardens own premises.

Phaskowa VerandaPhaskowa Garden provides various scopes for explorations and excursions with lots of hikes and day out. A wild safari into the Buxa Tiger Reserve – the only Tiger Reserve in North Bengal for the majestic Royal Bengal Tigers is the obvious choice for the wildlife lovers. One can also hike to Jayanti Cave. The picnic day out to Rydak and Jayanti River apart from the tea garden visit will keep you engaged throughout the day. A day excursion to Coochbehar Royal Palace and Rasik Bill Bird Sanctuary can also be made from here.

2 nights 3 days at Phaskowa Tea Estate - an un-trodden Tea & Tiger trail
tea gardenDay 1: Arrival at Phaskhowa Tea Garden. The journey runs through the vast plains along the foothills of Bhutan Himalayas with numerous rivers valleys and beautiful vista of lush green forests and tea gardens on the undulating slopes. Check in at the 120 years old Bungalow on the top of a hill and relax in the luxurious comfort in Planters’ style.

Day 2: Today we explore the garden with the manager and experience the entire process of tea manufacturing with tea plucking, factory visit followed by tea testing for different verities of Dooars tea. After lunch go for an adventurous safari in Buxa Tiger Reserve. The Reserve bordering Bhutan and Assam is an important forest for Royal Bengal Tiger and Indian Bison apart for elephant, leopard, deer and numeral species of birds. This reserve holds the maximum number of Tigers in North Bengal. Watch the wild animals roam freely in their natural habitat from the watch tower inside the park.

Or you can go for a bike ride around the garden and villages and experience the livelihoods of the ethnic people.  
The evening will mark with a thumping tribal musical show with dance and bon fire performed by the garden workers. 

Day 3: Walk to the nearby river for a scenic view in the morning for couple of hours before checking out from Phaskhawa. Tour ends with breakfast and a warm farewell from the garden and drive to onward destination with memories to cherish for a long time.

Day 4: This day we will go for a hike to historical Buxa Fort, which was used as a Jail in during Pre-independence period and our Freedom Fighters were kept here. An alternate Hike can also be arranged to the Mahakal Cave in Jayanti which is a favorite pilgrimage for the local devotees. On the Shivratri night half a million devotees gather to worship SHIVA - the Lord of Destruction in this fascinating stalactites and stalagmites cave. If you are looking for a leisure day can enjoy a picnic lunch with barbeque at the picturesque Raydak River Bank.
