Martam Village Resort is located at Martam in East Sikkim. The resort is about 34 kms from Gangtok and is an hours drive from the capital city. The Resort overlooks beautiful valley of rich terraced paddy fields bounded by forest covered hills. The Resort owns its own Vehicles, trekking and camping equipment, mountain bikes and fishing equipment.
The resort can be reached via Rumtek monastery if you are coming from Gangtok, the other way to reach Martam is to travel to Singtam and from there going to Martam via Sirwani and Sang. If you are travelling to Martam from west or south Sikkim, you would probably take the second route.
You can be taken to the nearby rivers and streams for fishing. There are mountain bikes available at the village which can be borrowed if you are interested to bike in the surrounding area. Birding is an activity which will keep you engaged. The proximity to the forest ensures a lot of birding opportunity.
Day Trek - You can go for a full day trek to Phambongla Wild Life Sanctuary through the forests above the resort. Birding during the day would is an activity you are sure to enjoy. The forest are is home for a variety of wild life such as barking deer, caveats, monkeys, wild rabbits, mountain goats, porcupine etc. and occasional sighting is possible. There is also some red panda population in the area but sighting is quite rare. There is a lake and a viewing tower on top of the hill and on a clear day the Kanchenjunga range can be visible in its full glory.
Village tour – Interested visitors are taken for a tour around the village getting an opportunity to meet and interact with the villagers. You can also go for a walk around the village to experience the traditional farming and cultivation.
Visit to Rumtek Monastery - The famous Monastery is just 6 KM from Martam. It takes less than 2 hours to reach the monastery on foot.
The accommodation is in thatched cottages. If you are new to village tourism, be prepared to trade some of the city hotel facilities for worm hospitality of a home stay. The staff of local villagers may not have professional hotel management degrees but are sure to charm you with their smile and courtesy. All rooms have attached baths. Care has been taken to project true Sikkimese culture and tradition through the décor of the resort. The food offered is wholesome and organic. You can ask for Sikkimese cuisine and beverages.
